Too much news, is really good news

Well folks, though I have been growing aquatic plants for many years, over 17 years, I am still quite young luckily and have plenty more knowledge to absorb. This blog is honestly as much for myself as a reference or journal to look back on as it is to share with you. I want to remember as much as I can and remember where I heard about what I learned. 2009 has been a great year for absorption of knowledge, more than just filling in blanks it is opening new chapters of information and with the help of the great people of the IWGS even the ones that I have only connected with via email I am more fascinated and ready to learn more than ever before. When I started this blog late last year I only imagined it being a reference for common water gardening questions which as of late have not been topics. I have been posting random new tidbits I am interested in sharing. If you are a newer water gardener and thought that this may be a place to learn the basics, I still want that to be the case.

On the right hand side of this blog there is a topic list which I hope can be used to find out what you need to know. Also the search bar at the top right corner should work. I will go back to more “new” questions soon but want to spend the last few weeks of summer tweaking some new areas of my own interest including lotus which I now want to know more about thanks to Paula, Kelly, and Warner. I still recommend the lotus book and am currently reviewing some of Warner’s work from Auburn in Alabama. I will share that with you soon as I will have some questions for him. I am now highly interested in lotus as a vegetable, I am going to wait for his recommendations on which varieties and for which part of the plant. I am not sure yet you want to fry up any old lotus. Perhaps in a year or two we can have varieties, and recipes to go with them. If the plants do come to market you can be sure this will be the place that makes one of the early announcements.  I have about 40 things I could post about here here every day for many weeks. I want to gather some information on a few more topics and bring them to you once or twice each week. I was thinking the winter would be slow and boring but with the IWGS connections I have plenty of new industry personnel that have decades of information to talk about. Anyone can join the IWGS and if you really enjoy water gardening I would suggest you join for free and read the journals every now and then. This industry is about 125 years old and the journey from the later 1800s to now is a fascinating read and there are many remarkable people along the way.
