A telescoped eyed goldfish that is Black. Black Moors (Carassius auratus), are very similar to telescope goldfish. They are extremely hardy and can overwinter outdoors easily, even in the north. Black and White Moors are called Panda Moors.

The vision of black moors are supposedly very poor. Feed little as they are prone to overeating which can lead to death within hours. Goldfish food is normally dry whether pellet or flake, as goldfish and koi quickly eat food it expands as it absorbs fluid in the stomach and can cause internal bleeding and death!

In the United states they are sometimes labeled as popeye or telescope.

These popular fish are found in most all pet stores and many pond stores. They are common aquarium fish.

Odd how they call the orange ones telescopes and black ones moors.

We used to have some of these in our pond they got huge fast! I bet they were 8 or 10 inches and bodies as big as your hand. They never had babies and lived probably 4 or 5 years.

  2. As a child going on holiday when I was about 12 yrs of age, we left the next door neighbour the door keys to come in and feed the fish. “Just a pinch, once a day is all they need” I said.

On returning from holiday, I am greeted with cloudy water, with the fish in very poor health. My neighbour had used all of one full tub of fish flakes and had started on the second tub. We were only away for two weeks. I did manage to save most of the fish, but the pump/filter just couldn’t cope with that amount of contamination. One of the fish that died was a black moor, at aroundf 4 – 5 inches.

After reading above “Feed little as they are prone to overeating” reminded me of this event. I used to keep the water so clear as well….. 8(.
