[...] I am happy to introduce Water-Garden-Blog’s first guest expert Paul Biles. Paula’s love for water gardening and lotus go back many years. She has been a great writer on a number of subjects and on many projects from magazines to journals and even a local Florida water garden club. Many water lily (Nymphaea) and lotus (Nelumbo) hobbiest are familiar with Paula’s work. About two years ago Paula co-authored a booklet with Kelly Billing, of Maryland Aquatics (also an amazing expert) which turned into a great book called “The Lotus: Know it and Grow it”, which we have written about in a previous post.
My sister shared this book with me over the Holidays and she has grown a lotus (Nelumbo) before this year I am going to try one and we are going to get our mother one to grow in a container garden. Loads of information on the history of the lotus as well as growing them. Very educational.

Sounds like the book and a lotus may make a wonderful Mothers day duo. That is a great price on the lotus and a very large selection. I have successfully grown a yellow lotus for 4 years but would still love to read the book. Wish I had room for another.
